Accurate information about LGBT+ people is important, especially now. Sometimes it can be a message that homo- or bisexuality are normal variants of human sexuality; that our relationships as as complicated as straight ones; or that transgender people’s lives are similar to others’. This kind of knowledge is useful, especially for teenagers who are still discovering their identity and orientation.
What can you do? A human library, a lesson, a training, or a workshop.
What can you do? A community meeting, a support group, Coming Out Day Party.
Crisis situations require quick interventions. Personal development support and building self acceptance can help in non emergency circumstances. As LGBT+ people, we disproportionately experience violence from our peers, get kicked out of our parents’ homes, and rejected by our families. We are attacked on the street for holding a loved one’s hand or because of our gender expression. It can be difficult to deal with it all on our own. Sometimes we need support.
What can you do? Provide psychological, legal, and social support, organize support groups, crisis interventions.
There are 2 million LGBT+ people in Poland, but we can’t say we are visible in public space. Some people believe if they can’t see us, we don’t exist. Research shows that visibility increases LGBT+ people acceptance. Well thought through and planned events in public spaces can be a tool for social change and stimulate reflection.
What can you do? Organize Equality March, an art performance, or a happening.
For our work for LGBT+ community to be effective, we have to acquire new competences and collaborate. We have to strengthen our communication, fundraising, and strategic thinking skills. We also can’t forget about ourselves and our groups – we must safeguard our own wellbeing.
What can you do? Organize a specialized training, a strategy development, or a workshop on sustainable activism.m.

“I donate to the Fund every month, because living in Warsaw I understand how important it is to be around people who think and feel like you. I come from Tarnów and I know that local communities can be accepting, open, and supportive too. They do need financial and social support though.”
